Eulogy Help
Saying goodbye with courage and healing
You’ve lost a loved one and you want to share your thoughts about them. But how do you go about writing a eulogy? We’re here to help.
Speak with empathy
There are many different ways to prepare and write eulogies. Some people use formal language while others don’t hold back on expressing themselves. Your approach depends entirely on what kind of person your newly departed was when alive. However, there does seem to be one thing in common with all successful speeches: empathy.
Whether it be through relating personal experiences and stories about your departed loved one or sharing their insights, the goal is to speak from the heart.

Eulogy help
The best eulogies are authentic and in the moment. Some tributes are solemn, others funny. Eulogies don’t need to account for every year of your departed one’s life. Instead, aim to give a snapshot of their life, one that characterises their relationship with you in a truthful and upbeat manner.
Sharing your truth does more than honour your departed loved one’s life. People listening connect their memories to yours in an uplifting and empowering way that begins the grief healing process for all. (Watch this uplifting eulogy example.)
How long is a eulogy?
Some of the best eulogies have been less than one minute, while others much longer. As a rule of thumb, no more than 7 minutes (1000 words on paper).
